You’re Ready for Change—But Now What? April 8, 2025 by Sue KarpinskiHealthy Habits: Are You Setting Yourself Up for Success? You’ve decided to take control of your health. You’re ready to make real changes, improve your energy, and feel your best. You’ve done the research, gathered all the information, and jumped in full steam ahead, adopting a bunch of new habits to get closer to your goals. But now, a week or two has passed, and instead of feeling empowered, you feel overwhelmed. You’re wondering if you’re doing things the right way, if you picked the right habits, or if you’re even on the right path at all. Or maybe you’re still in the planning phase, stuck in analysis paralysis—absorbing all the information but not taking action. We have all been there at one time or another. Why a Plan Matters There’s a saying: If you fail to plan, you plan to fail. Every goal that’s ever been achieved started with a solid plan. Take a moment to reflect on different areas of your life—your health, career, family, or personal growth. Most of us have at least one or two areas where we feel stuck or out of alignment. Maybe you’ve been laser-focused on your career, but your health has taken a backseat. Or maybe you’ve cleaned up your diet, but you’re still running on too little sleep and too much stress. The truth is, it’s impossible to be perfect in every area of wellness—physical, emotional, mental, social, existential (aka meaning and purpose) and environmental. Instead of trying to fix everything at once, a good approach is to focus on one or two key areas that matter most to you. When you narrow your focus, you set yourself up for success. Where To Place Your Focus? A great way to figure out where to start is to reflect on your recent frustrations. What’s the one thing you keep complaining about—to yourself or others? Do you feel exhausted all the time? Are you frustrated that your clothes don’t fit? Do you constantly feel stressed, overwhelmed, or behind on everything? These pain points are clues to where you should focus your energy. What is bothering you the most? Start there. Instead of making a long list of changes, choose one small action that directly addresses your biggest struggle. Think Big, But Start Small When it comes to habit change, slow and steady wins the race. Even if you have multiple things you want to improve, start with just one. The key is making it simple enough to fit seamlessly into your daily routine so you can sustain it long-term. Yes, it may take a little more time, but you’ll be far more successful than if you try to change everything overnight. When to Add More How do you know when it’s time to add a new habit? Simple—when your first habit becomes automatic. Once you no longer have to think about it, you’re ready to layer in the next step. It may not always be easy but it can be that simple. This is exactly how we structure the Metabolic and Lifestyle Reset—helping you implement small, strategic changes that build on each other for lasting success. Instead of feeling overwhelmed, you’ll feel empowered with a clear, sustainable roadmap for your health.
